| In een gewetenloze machtsstrijd pleegt een team specialisten een inbraak in het Democratisch Hoofdkwartier. Wat een soepele en simpele operatie had moeten zijn, wordt uiteindelijk de ondergang van Nixon(een glansrol van Anthony Hopkins, die hem een oscar®-nominatie opleverde). Nixon strijdt tot het bittere eind om zijn misdaden te verhullen en zijn functie te behouden, maar zonder succes. Als het net zich onvermijdelijk om de President sluit, blijkt hoe diep het ongelooflijke Watergate-schandaal zich genesteld heeft in zijn regering.
